I was writing songs for my band, The Jean Jackets, but members of the band ended up in different places after College and eventually we couldn’t really play together anymore. I had all these songs laying around and decided to just start my own project!
What song of yours is the one you like the most?
“The Man with Red Eyes”. It’s in a world of its own.

How do you write your music?
In my bedroom with my guitar. A lot of my songs are written when I need to let off steam or express something that’s been on my mind.
What influences do you have?
I listen to so many different styles of music that range from indie rock all the way to tropicalia brazilian music. Some of my favorites right now are Alex G, Mac Demarco, and Jorge Ben.

What´s the best experience you have had with your project?
It’s a fairly new project so not a lot has happened with it. The best part part about the whole thing is being able to record in the studio, Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen. I love making demos in my room, but there’s a special quality about recording in the studio. The hours fly by and you completely forget about the outside world. There’s a natural creativity and spontaneity that emerges in studio that I can’t get recording in my room.
What plans do you have this year?
At this point in the project, I’m mainly just a recording artist, so no tour is planned or anything like that. I’m just excited about the release of the album on January 11th.
Mention something you don´t like about your project.
My project is a little different because I don’t have an actual band to play shows with. Right now it’s just me and my drummer. One of the things I truly miss about playing in a band is the sense of community when we played shows.
Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.
I work full time and spent almost all of my free time writing, practicing and recording. It’s really fun and in the end fulfilling and rewarding, but it can also get exhausting. But I’m also someone who works hard and I knew going into it that I would give it my all.

What band, music project or solist from your city do you like? Why?
To be honest, there aren’t really any bands that I know about in Princeton. I’m sure there are some underground Princeton U bands that play, but also maybe not, hah.
If your project was a word, what would it be?
?
What´s your full name? Where were you when you answered the interview?
Christine Spilka. Princeton, NJ
