Fallon Cush

When did the project begin? and How did you meet yourselves?

Fallon Cush is an Australian studio based band playing the songs of singer-songwriter, Steve Smith. Fallon Cush’s self titled debut was released in 2011 and was followed up by April in 2012.
The band grew out of a group of friends and friends of friends

What song of yours is the one you like the most?

How do you write your music?

Typically Steve Smith brings simple versions of acoustic guitar based songs to the band which are heard for the first time in the studio and recorded immediately without any pre-production. Arrangements are created ‘on the fly’ with the aim being to capture those elusive initial moments of creativity which are often lost over time. The bands distinctive trademark sounds has developed through this process and the use of vintage analog equipment with both albums being recorded and mixed within a matter of a few days.

What influences do you have?

The band has very wide and diverse musical tastes. Fallon Cush however plays Americana tinged pop/rock songs often described as being Tom Petty meets Crowded House.
John Lennons fearless solo work continues to influence the personal nature and honesty of Steve Smiths lyrics.

musicsoundrocks2 - copiaWhat´s the best experience you have had with your project?

Hearing the songs take form in the studio from guitar and voice to full band in an organic process is what Fallon Cush is all about delivering a warm, emotionally engaging sound. Sitting back and hearing a completed track is always the highlight of any session.

What plans do you have this year?

The band recently spent a couple of days back in the studio recording their third album which will be released in 2015.
In the meantime Steve Smith and Suzy Goodwin will continue to play the occasional acoustic show in Sydney

Mention something you don´t like about your project.

What we don’t like is everything other than playing and making music. Fallon Cush’s only reason to exist is the music. It’s hard to imagine the band doing anything other than releasing music independently.

Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.

The only sacrifice is the cost involved in recording in a traditional recording studio but we believe it’s an integral part of the bands sound

What band, music project or solist from your city do you like? Why?

The Nature Strip is our favourite Sydney band. Excellent and at times surprising songs, great musicianship and consistancy with two songwriters and vocalists make for a very interesting and entertaining powerpop band.

If your project was a word, what would it be?

– Travertine. It’s beauty lies in its imperfections

– Steve Smith, sitting on my couch in Sydney with one eye on the football
