When did the project begin and how did you meet yourselves?

I’ve been making music for fun the last couple years and it has quickly become a passion of mine. I begin studying music at university this year which has only given me more reason to try to find my signature and develop it.

What song of yours is the one you like the most?

I’d have to say ‘Clockwork’ is the track that I’m most proud of, musically. Even though I feel I have improved as a producer since making it, ‘Clockwork’ is still the first track I’d want to introduce myself with. The idea behind it is just the strict unchanging rhythms throughout mimic that of clock workings and the arpeggios that follow imitate the hands moving round the clock face.

How do you write your music?

Most of my music starts with me just sitting at a piano hitting some notes until something happens that I feel I could turn into something. I also use Ableton Push to sketch out any ideas that come to mind and then use Live 9 to turn the basic idea into a finished track.

What influences do you have?

I am heavily influenced by the minimalist scene in late 20th century music, Philip Glass and Steve Reich being two of my favourite composers. They pioneered the notion of ‘if an idea is good, why change it?’ They were so influential in their primes and I try to adopt many of the philosophies they use when I make music.

In June this year I will be playing a piece I wrote for solo piano in the 40th anniversary concert for my high school. This is almost going to be the first premier of something I’ve written. I’ll be playing ‘Margaret’s’ which is up on my SoundCloud. This will be the first time my music properly makes it out of my bedroom.

What plans do you have this year?

I begin studying music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland late this year and writing more contemporary classical music will be my main focus. We are assessed based on portfolios written over the course of the year and they have to fill a certain amount of time, which increases each year. So, just trying to write enough music to fill the minimum time requirement and ensuring it stays up to standard will no doubt keep me busy!

Mention something you don´t like about your project.

As a beginner to the whole music production thing, sometimes I feel as though I’m unable to make ideas sound the way they do in my head. However, I’m learning as I go and hopefully in time, this will become easier and less of a problem for me.

Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.

What band, music project or soloist from your city do you like?

The Scott Wood Band are a folk group from my home town and I particularly admire them because of their musicianship. This allows them to write most of their own material and create original arrangements of existing music. I listen to them regularly and some of their tracks are amongst my favourite music to listen to. Also, knowing their leading man is local fills you with a bit of inspiration and hometown pride.

If your project was a word, what would it be?

– Probably ‘improvised’ because I make music for fun and usually have no idea what I’m doing, just making it up as I go. There’s no set way to establish a stable career making music, you’ve just got to give it a real try and see how it turns out.

– Adam, sitting in my bedroom which is also my studio.
