Metzger Dark Ambient
My project has started very little in my Bedroom with one amplifier I could only use on the lowest volume possible because otherwise I could get the police called on me easily.
I was doing only making songs with virtual synthesizers because of this until I found a rehearsal room available to rent sharing with a band at Studios Sonum. Then I could practice at high volumes and eventually built a bigger setup with more amplifiers and more pedals. Started recording and uploading officially in February 2015 so that project was 2 years in the making, I started experimenting and recording my first songs.
Now I have my own Studio room at Studios Sonum, all the space I need and almost achieved my optimal setup I`m seeking to build to be able to produce the bests songs I can make.
What song of yours is the one you like the most?
My favorite song is probably I Am Lustfully Having These Lascivious Carnal Dreams About You.
How do you write your music?
My music is fully improvised, I find a sound using a setup of pedals using one of the instruments I feel like playing with, I rehearse for a while and then when ready I record a track. So usually new its a new sound I’ve found I make a new video for it and for songs I start a new project in my DAW then I record other tracks with different settings, setups and/or instruments. My songs are not meant to be reproduced live or anything it would be almost impossible, I use the inspiration at the moment and create the concept for the song with my feelings at the time.
What is music?
Music is my way of life, an escape , a way to channel negative energy and keep me sane and happy.
What influences do you have?
I am inspired by the first Fallout games soundtracks and then when I found artists like ; Kammarheit and Raison D’etre its when I knew I was going to be making this genre of Music.
What´s the best experience you have had with your project?
The best experience was to actually been given money on Bandcamp, at that point I knew I was doing something right if people could get my music for free and chose to actually give me a few bucks it makes me the happiest man in the world.
What plans do you have this year?
This year I have already accomplished a few of my goals, mainly to be able to create the songs I was dreaming of making with always the goal of improving in mind. I am currently building my optimal studio setup hoping to get it finished this year or at the beginning of next year.
Mention something you don´t like about your project.
The only thing I dislike is the fact it would be almost impossible to even think living from this and that anyway I will always put more into it than I will ever receive, everybody Dreams to make a living from their music, I know I just won’t !
Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.
As said earlier I can’t make a living from my music ever, the sacrifice I have chosen to make is to put everything into this project , I am working 2 jobs to be able to properly fund this project , I have almost no social life outside the workplace and the studio, my only friends I know from work, from fellow musicians in music stores and Studio Sonums and of course all the people I meet on my social media outlets. Most of my money and time is going into this, forget about having a girlfriend, forget about going out , forget about a lot of things but to me I am living my dream, it doesn’t matter what the mainstream thinks of me.
What band, music project or solist from your city do you like?
There are a lot of good bands from here but I will choose the oldest one I know of which is Never More Than Less , to me is a band more in the genre of music I listen to on a daily basis, I enjoy their live performances most than anything they always deliver.
If your project was a word, what would it be?
If my project was a word it would be : Solitary. All revolves around being alone and living alone. I write names and concepts for songs all around being alone, living in a world where I don’t feel at ease in trying to cope with life.
All my songs are about Solitude in a way or another. My project is also about being able to do almost everything myself, to be the purest fulfillment of my imagination I can Possibly make it to be.
What´s your full name? Where were you when you answered the interview?
I’m Steven Beaumont and I am writing these words in my Studio at Studios Sonum in Quebec city.
Thank you/Merci beaucoup!
