When did the project begin? and How did you meet yourselves?

I am Poetzee, a spoken word artist from the UK. I present myself wholeheartedly, my mission is to express my feelings with words and music. Signed to 623Entertainment a label in America, I have produced two albums so far ‘Mother Earth’ and ‘Poetzee Presents Part 2’. Album number three is just around the corner.

What song of yours is the one you like the most?

One poem I hold dear to me is ‘A work of Art’ this came from a deep emotion inside. A feeling many people around the world share about injustices, racism and discrimination. I hope that anyone listening, from any background or race can appreciate how difficult it would be to tell your children that they will not always be accepted in the world because of the colour of their skin.

How do you write your music?

Each time I write a poem the strategy is different. I also arrange the music that accompanies my poetry. Sometimes I find a music sample arrange the track then write, sometimes a book, event or feeling motivates me to write and I then find a sample. I love to write to music as it brings my thoughts to life.

What influences do you have?musicsoundrocks2 - copia

I always give respect to my influences in my work. I like to include references in my poetry which gives thanks to those before me. Maya Angelou, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, The Last Poets, Bruce Lee, Nina Simone, Nelson Mandela, Angela Davis, Assata Shakur, this list goes on! Anyone who has and continues to speak up for oppressed people.

What´s the best experience you have had with your project?

The best experiences I have gained from my work is being featured on many talented artists albums. I have the pleasure on being on Traum Digg’s ionic ‘Jazz Hop’ album. I have written poetry for the Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute which has an upcoming exhibition in memory of the late Paul Robeson. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store.

What plans do you have this year?

‘The Colour Blue’ is my next album, due to be released on 623entertainment’s label very soon. I’m proud of this one, as well as my others. I feel super confident. The album features other talents such as my label mate, Traum Diggs, a talented blues singer Raye Cole and super cool poet Jahi Trotter. This album has a little more fire in the belly, although my work is never fast pace. I’m a slow mover.

Mention something you don´t like about your project.

This will sound mad, but I don’t like my accent, the way my voice sounds. Others have been kind to tell me they disagree but it pains me to listen to myself.

Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.

To be honest I have not made any sacrifices as such for my project other than to bare my views, dislikes, desires and opinions. I’m shy deep down. Cosmic Echoes was particularly difficult for me to share as it speaks of my conflict growing up mixed race and wanting to fit in. I didn’t want others to think I was questioning my identity. As I’ve grown and educated my soul I am proud to be me.

What band, music project or solist from your city do you like? Why?

I have had the pleasure with working with many talented, true brothers and sisters from across the pond, over in America. If I could work with anyone in the UK it would be the closet poets who are yet to share their words. I would love to find new, underrated poets.

If your project was a word, what would it be?
– Sincere

If I had to sum up any of projects using only one word, I would use the word ‘Sincere’. I always write with sincerity and I hope that comes across.
