The Actions
“Me and Silty used to play together since we were kids. We formed different bands, we played with other acts as well, then we decide to give life to The Actions.”
What song of yours is the one you like the most?
“Songs are like sons, there can’t be one you like the most…if we had to suggest one of our latest singles to new listeners we’d recommend ‘The Echo’.
This song is the first track of our new EP ‘Indefensible’ and it’s receiving great support by important radios like BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio London 94.9FM, XFM, Amazing Radio…if you want more info about The Actions you can simply go to our website www.theactions.co.uk .”
How do you write your music?
“Well, we work hard everyday. We both are producers and songwriters. Sometimes a song comes from a riff or chord progression, sometimes it comes from words (both of us write lyrics). Things just come out.”
What influences do you have?
“Artists that most influenced us are quite a few: Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, The Doors, Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Ennio Morricone, Janis Joplin, Rolling Stones, Joy Division, Police, Sarah Vaughan, Portishead, Tricky, Radiohead, Nirvana, QOTSA, Sex Pistols…”
What´s the craziest experience you have had with your project?
“There have been quite a few over the years. Once I was in the middle of a guitar solo, all the people in the club were looking at me and I broke two strings at the same time. I don’t know how this could happen, but it did. I thought I was fucked, suddenly I remembered an old Iron Maiden’s concert and I started whipping the strings with my instrument cable instead of playing real notes…crowd went mad! So I’d recommend guitarists out there to never use wireless systems. An old-fashioned cable could be a good pal sometimes!”
What plans do you have next?
“We’ll spend next few months in our studio composing and producing new stuff, then we’ll be back on stage.”
Mention something you don´t like about your project
“Well, definitely the boring promotional tasks you need to fulfill if you’re an independent musician. Everyone of us would love to play and compose music 24/7, unfortunately (or fortunately) today every aspect of this job is in your hands.”
Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.
“Again, if you are an indie musician your life is a ‘sacrifice’! The only thing is that you’re happy with it and you don’t care about the big efforts needed, cause you love it.”
What band, music project or soloist from your city do you like? (Why?)
“Tough question. London’s music scene is really varied and full of talents and every night you have the chance to see a great band playing live, so it’s really hard to name just a few of them as they’re all good and really rock the stage…If you come to visit London I’d suggest to follow The Gig Slut’s agenda, you can’t go wrong.”
If your project was a car, what model would it be? (Why?)
“Well let’s say our project IS actually our black Fiat Punto, it brings us everywhere and we’d be lost without it”.
Who answer these questions? Where were you when you answered the interview?
Mo, traveling from London to Amsterdam in the black Punto…Silty’s driving as usual.
