The Romantic Miscreants

We were all members of the Newberg High School Theatre troupe, and one night, during the teardown of a set, two of our founding members, Zaine and Travis, were gallivanting around the building causing shenanigans.

Spontaneously, they came up with the name “Romantic Miscreants” and decided they had to find other potential members who also had an affinity for adventure and mischief. Several members and expeditions later, the Miscreants realized their potential for a totally rad band. We all got together in Zaine’s room, booted up his old computer, and got to work.

What song of yours is the one you like the most?
Our newest single, Launchpad.

Lyrics

————————————————————-

Verse 1:

Stepping in slow motion, towards the capsule launchpad

We’ve packed all of our potions, killed the lich from Stonegrad

We’ve tackled every demon, completed every quest

We left no person screamin’, we leveled up and passed the test

We’re moving on to better things, to reach among the stars

We built a ship with metal wings, to sail our hopes past Mars

The countdown has commenced now, we’re leaving Earth behind

Wipe the sweat off of your brow, prepare to lose your mind.

————————————————————-

Chorus:

Let’s head off far away,

It can’t be done they say,

But one day

They’ll see what we have done.

The Miscreants have sailed,

Sailed past the Sun.

————————————————————-

Verse 2:

The launchpad is ready now,

We’re just about to go

Hold on to your spaghetti now, it’s to late to tell us no

Buckle up your seatbelts, check the pressure gauge,

Activate the thrusters, consume yourself in rage!

————————————————————-

Rap:

Let’s set off let’s head off,

It’s time to go to space,

we’re gonna launch into the galaxy and save the human race,

We’ll explore all the planets, every inch of this frontier

let’s power up the phasers and kick it into gear

————————————————————-

Chorus

————————————————————-

Bridge verse:

New challenges for us await, new obstacles to face

Nobody knows what’s out there, the mysteries of space

Every galaxy and solar system is there to be explored

Dangers lurk at every warp, they cannot be ignored

Our training has prepared us for whatever we will find,

Technological advances that will benefit mankind.

If we die out there in space, no one will ever know;

Way out there our death awaits, so grab your stuff and go.

How do you write your music?
We all get together in our small project studio and brainstorm ideas for a song. We get all of our instruments out, and once we pin down a direction, we start writing the lyrics. Sometimes it takes us a while to get on the right path, but once we’re there, the juices start flowing, and the song practically writes itself. Our jam sessions are are always very laid back, with plenty of snacks and pizza to go around.
What is music?
To the Romantic Miscreants, music is a way for to people to connect in a way that wouldn’t usually be possible. Music is what brought our adventurous spirits together, and we want to share that with other people.
What influences do you have?
Our biggest influences by far are childhood nostalgia, and the spirit of adventure. Musically, our sound has tastes of Gorillaz, Beck, C418, and Muse. It’s a strange combination, but that’s just how we like it.
What´s the best experience you have had with your project?
The best experience we’ve had so far as a band was definitely the night that our second album, Galaxyrise, was conceived. All of the members had gathered at Zaine’s graduation party, and we all sat down to make some music. That night, we wrote Launchpad, the first song on our second project together. It was a classic example of us working at our best, for we wrote, recorded, and produced the whole song over the course of around six hours. That night was a blast for everyone, and on top of that, we made a killer song.

What plans do you have this year?
Our plans for the next year include releasing our second project, Galaxyrise. We’re very excited about the work we’ve been doing, and we can’t wait to show everyone. Ideally, we would like to start releasing promotional videos regularly, as well as growing our fanbase and hopefully playing some live shows.
Mention something you don´t like about your project.
The most difficult thing about or project is getting everyone organized. We all have different schedules, so planning a day and time to work on the album can sometimes be frustrating.
Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.
We’ve sacrificed our identity as a group of adventurers in order to become a group of musicians. We used to all get together and go hiking, but nowadays all our time is devoted to our musical endeavors.
What band, music project or solist from your city do you like?
There aren’t many musicians from Newberg that we are familiar with besides some of our other friends, but a band from the Portland area that we really like is the alternative rock group Portugal, the Man.
If your project was a word, what would it be?
Adventurous!
What´s your full name? Where were you when you answered the interview?
Our full name is: The Romantic Miscreants

The members of the group are: Aaron Secrist, Zaine Terry, Jesse Groat, Travis Cox, and Abby Mortensen.

Aaron and Zaine answered the interview from the project studio in Newberg.
