Voices From The Void

The project started in 2011.  I am a solo artist…

What song of yours is the one you like the most?

There are several I like and I have no favorites but if I had to choose it would be one of  my earlier Soundscape tracks “Journey To Titan”.

How do you write your music?

Usually I start off with a guitar riff perhaps from an arpeggio on my Yamaha Synth, or bass with drums and continue to layer in other musical instruments. I usually have a basic theme throughout my songs with breaks in between.

What influences do you have?

Enigma, Vangelis, Brian Eno, Red Forest, many Jazz artists.

What´s the best experience you have had with your project?

Probably tying several guitar pedals together and experimenting with the sounds using my Fender Strat and my Fender Telecaster. A lot of this can be heard in my earlier Soundscape songs.

What plans do you have this year?

I plan to try and push my music via social media etc to get it heard by more people.

Mention something you don´t like about your project.

This probably is the mixing side of things. This can be a minefield in my opinion. Since 2011, when the project started, I was a novice at this but have been on a learning curve and I’m still learning even now. I believe my mixes have improved over time, but this is my biggest bug bear, applying EQ and Compression, especially to  the drums, I have never particularly liked, but it’s a must as I have no one to do this for me, but I guess necessity is the mother of invention. I have learned a lot from YouTube.

Mention the biggest sacrifice you did for your project.

The biggest sacrifice I would have to say was the purchase of the Soft Synth, “Omnisphere, which  was a cool £280.00 which is a lot of money for a soft synth but I have incorporated it into my latest songs and it’s immense, it cost me, but it was worth every penny.

What band, music project or solist from your city do you like? Why?

There’s no particular music project or soloist in my town that interests me, at least I haven’t come across one as yet, but I haven’t been living in my present town for long.

If your project was a word, what would it be?

Anyone listening to my music would probably be aware that I don’t play any particular music genre as it stems from Soundscape, Jazz, Blues to Rap, although a lot of my earlier stuff was Soundscape.  If I had to use a word it would have to pertain to my earlier Soundscape stuff being ” Metaphysical “.
